The Creation of the
REGION V MEN'S STATE STATISTICS

Back in 1998, I was asked by the Indiana Girl's State Statistician to create a webpage to keep track of the Girls in the State of Indiana so that everyone could see how each girl was doing.  This page was the beginning of it all.  My husband & I soon decided that this should be a page of it's own instead of being part of the State Statistician's gym page.  So, in 1999, my husband took the reins and it has truly became an entity of it's own!  This site, IGSS.org, is now where everyone in the state of Indiana goes (for the girl's program) to see if they have qualified to go to state as well as a variety of other information for the Indiana Girls Gymnastics Program.

In the summer of 2002, I asked the Indiana Men's State Chair if he would approve me creating a site that would do basically the same thing for the Men's Program.  Provided this would be a bit more difficult due to the fact that, unlike the girls, the men's coaches weren't required to submit a roster or meet results.  I told him that there was always a first for everything and he agreed to let me try.  So... the Indiana Men's State Statistics site was created in the hopes it would promote the men's gymnastics program in the state of Indiana.  I had a pretty good response to the requests of rosters and meet results and the INMSS was up and running.  During that first year, Kentucky Gymnastics Academy was included because they attended Indiana's State Meet.  They attended Indiana's State Meet because they had not built their men's program large enough to have their own State meet.  Therefore, their boys were added to the mix to see how everyone was doing going into Regionals.

Most everyone who logged into the site seemed to enjoy it.  The Kentucky parents especially liked the site.  As time went on, the site grew and grew.  Then, a couple of months into the second season "on the net", I was talking to some of the Kentucky parents as well as some of the older optionals in Indiana and they were hinting that it would be nice to see where "our boys" ranked against everyone in Region V.   I, too, thought that was a GREAT idea!  Not realizing how time consuming getting something like that in place would be, I started converting the INMSS to the RVMSS (REGION V MEN'S STATE STATISTICS).

As of February 18th, 2003, the Indiana Men's State Statistics webpage became the REGION V MEN'S STATE STATISTICS webpage!  I spent months contacting the various gyms in Region V working on getting information that was accurate.  A lot of the information that is listed is straight from the USAG website.  (So if that is incorrect, then so is mine.)  There is still a whole lot of work to do in order to get it more accurate.   Hopefully, as time goes by,  more gyms will become aware of the RVMSS and it will get to be an excellent  source of information for everyone in the Region V Men's Gymnastics program.

I did not create this site to take the place of the Region V Men's Gymnastics page or any of the other State Web pages, but more to walk hand-in-hand with them.  I stay in contact with the various webmasters and will usually link to their pages opposed to rewriting what they have already written.  Sometimes I will "rewrite" it, but not very often.   Ron Galimore and Bo Morris both know about this page and have given me their "blessing".  Thanks goes out to them and all of the coaches and webmasters in the Region for all of their help!

Sonja Rupe,
Creator of the RVMSS

Update August 2005 - After reading the Creation Page during an update, I realized I needed to add some to it.

I continued to try and stay on top of the information for the RVMSS site for the 2004-05 season.  It started to get noticed more during this season.  I'm actually having several people from the various states in the region who update me regularly!

In the Fall of 2004, I became the official webmaster of the Indiana Men's Gymnastics web pages.  In the Spring of 2005, I became the official Secretary AND Webmaster of the Indiana Men's Gymnastics.

As of June, 2005, I became the official webmaster of the Region V Men's Gymnastics website!  This was very exciting for me but created much work.   I switched everything off of the RVMSS that was technically Region V stuff and am in the process of making the RVMSS strictly a STATS site.  I hope to keep both sites as current as possible.  <smile>
